The bull run

The San Fermín bull run

Everything you need to know about the world's most famous run

What is the bull run?

The encierro (bull run) is a race in which six fighting bulls and six steers run through the streets of Pamplona's Old Town to the bullring. It takes place every morning from July 7 to 14 at 08:00 sharp, during the San Fermín festival.

The route covers 875 metres and the bulls usually complete it in 2-3 minutes. It is Spain's most famous tradition and one of the world's most renowned events, immortalised by Ernest Hemingway in his novel The Sun Also Rises (1926).

Thousands of people gather every morning to watch it, either from the barriers along the route or from the coveted balconies overlooking the streets where the bulls pass. Our building is located on Estafeta Street, the longest and most exciting stretch of the route.
